Maternity Pillow Troubleshooting

Unboxing Your Bumpnest

Your Bumpnest Maternity Pillow arrives vacuum rolled and compressed to keep it clean, compact, and fresh during delivery.
Once unboxed, carefully open the vacuum seal and allow your pillow to expand naturally. It may take a few hours to regain its full shape.

Gently feather, fluff, and shape each section — especially around the curves — to help the filling settle evenly.
This ensures the pillow feels soft, full, and supportive, just as intended.
You can also give it a light shake before first use to help it reach its full, cloud-like volume faster.

What To Do If:

1. I’m waking up with back pain
2. There's too much pressure on my bump or back
3. I'm not getting enough support from my pillow
4. My pillow feels too firm and uncomfortable

1. I’M WAKING UP WITH BACK PAIN

Is it an old pain or new since using the pillow?

For ongoing back pain:

The Bumpnest Maternity Pillow can be a valuable part of your broader pain management strategy—alongside things like massage, stretching, or physio. Consistent use over a few weeks can help you reassess whether it's easing discomfort.

For new back pain:

Tried the Bumpnest for a few nights and waking up sore? It may just need some adjusting:

1.1 Your pillows are too close together

Not enough space between the wedges can create too much pressure on your back.

Solution: Loosen the adjustable strap to allow more room for your body to nestle comfortably.

1.2 Your back isn’t supported enough

If you're not fully side-lying, your bump might pull weight down and strain your back.

Solution: Use the auxiliary pillow behind your back for extra “boost.”

1.3 Your back pillow is too firm

This can be uncomfortable if you prefer softer support.

Solution: Remove a handful of stuffing to soften the feel.

1.4 Your pillow is positioned too high

As your bump grows and shifts lower, your back support might need repositioning.

Solution: Adjust the pillow height until it aligns with the lower curve of your back.

2. I CAN’T GET RID OF HIP OR PELVIC PAIN

The Bumpnest Pillow helps with sleep-related hip/pelvic pain, but not all pain comes from sleep positioning.

2.1 Your top leg is falling towards your lower leg

This causes pelvic rotation and pressure.

Solution: Use the auxiliary pillow (or a thicker pillow) between your knees to keep legs parallel.

2.2 The extra pillow isn’t helping

Sometimes, the auxiliary pillow may not be thick enough for your needs.

Solution: Try a standard pillow or pair your Bumpnest with the Full Body Attachment for added lower body support.

3. THERE’S TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON MY BUMP OR BACK

Feeling like the pillow is pushing into you? Try these fixes:

3.1 Your pillows are too close

Too much compression can lead to discomfort after a few hours.

Solution: Adjust the strap for a looser fit and more space between wedges.

3.2 Your pillow is too firm

Pregnancy makes your body extra sensitive.

Solution: Remove a small amount of filling until you find a more comfortable feel.

3.3 Your pillow is positioned too high or too low

Precise placement makes a big difference with the Bumpnest design.

Solution: Try different heights until your bump and back feel fully supported.

4. I’M NOT GETTING ENOUGH SUPPORT FROM MY PILLOW

If the Bumpnest doesn’t feel like it’s doing enough, you might need to tweak your setup.

4.1 Your pillows are too far apart

Too much space can prevent proper wedging.

Solution: Shorten the strap so the pillows tuck snugly under your bump and back.

4.2 Your pillow is too soft

Some people just prefer firmer support.

Solution: Add the auxiliary pillow to increase firmness where needed.

4.3 One of your pillows is too high or low

Height is everything when it comes to effective support.

Solution: Adjust until you hit your personal sweet spot.

5. MY PILLOW FEELS TOO FIRM AND UNCOMFORTABLE

Tried adjusting the strap and position but still too firm?

Solution: Gently remove some filling. Start small and test as you go—it’s all about customising it to your body’s needs.
